🚨 Ohio GOP Wants to Kill Legal Weed: Senate Bill 56 is a Direct Attack on Issue 2! 🚨
Ohio cannabis community, we have a problem. The Ohio GOP is back at it again, trying to gut our voter-approved legalization law with Senate Bill 56 (SB 56)—a bill designed to slash home grow, raise taxes, cut THC limits, and steal money from communities that supported legalization. This is a direct attack on Issue 2, and if we don’t fight back, they’ll rewrite the law in favor of big corporations, law enforcement, and prisons.
Ohio SB 56: The GOP’s Attempt to Roll Back Issue 2
We fought hard to legalize cannabis in Ohio, and Issue 2 was passed with the overwhelming support of voters. But SB 56 aims to undo key parts of that law, including:
1️⃣ Home Grow Slashed
🔴 Issue 2: Allows adults to grow up to 12 cannabis plants per household (if two or more adults live there).⚠️ SB 56 Change: Cuts the home grow limit in half to just SIX plants per household—regardless of how many adults live there!
2️⃣ Higher Taxes on Legal Cannabis
🔴 Issue 2: Taxes recreational cannabis at 10%, with 72% of that money funding local communities and social equity programs.⚠️ SB 56 Change: Raises the cannabis tax to 15% and eliminates funding for social equity and community programs.
3️⃣ Stealing Cannabis Tax Money
🔴 Issue 2: 36% of cannabis tax revenue goes to social equity and community reinvestment, supporting those most harmed by prohibition.⚠️ SB 56 Change: Redirects ALL cannabis tax revenue into the state’s General Fund, where it will mostly go to law enforcement, prisons, and poison control instead of rebuilding communities.
4️⃣ Lower THC Limits
🔴 Issue 2: Does not impose restrictions on THC percentages, allowing consumers to choose the best products for their needs.⚠️ SB 56 Change: Caps THC at 35% for flower and 70% for concentrates, limiting medical and recreational consumers’ access to the products that work best for them.
5️⃣ No More Gifting Cannabis
🔴 Issue 2: Allows adults to legally share cannabis with other adults.⚠️ Ohio SB 56 Change: Makes gifting completely illegal—meaning you could face penalties just for sharing cannabis with a friend.
The GOP Thinks Joints Grow on Trees
Let’s be honest: these lawmakers have no clue how cannabis works. The Ohio GOP seems to think joints grow straight from the plant, proving how disconnected they are from cannabis consumers, patients, and businesses.
Instead of supporting Ohio-grown businesses, small dispensaries, and social equity applicants, they’re pushing policies that benefit corporate growers, big pharmaceutical companies, and law enforcement.
This is a Money Grab for Law Enforcement & Prisons
🚨 Where is all the cannabis tax money going? Straight to law enforcement, prisons, and state agencies that don’t need more funding.
📉 Instead of using cannabis revenue to improve Ohio communities, SB 56 funnels the money into the General Fund, where the state can spend it on anything—including increasing police budgets and expanding prisons.
🛑 This is the exact opposite of what Ohio voters approved!
